Current fuel prices in Poland and throughout Europe are very high, which also translates into the general cost of living. The price of gasoline is an important item on any family's spending list, especially if you have to commute to work or school. For this reason, all methods that allow you to save a little on it are so important. One of them was suggested by Google Maps.
Jak jeździć ekonomicznie – szybkie tipy:
The basic element of lower fuel consumption by a car is taking care of driving in accordance with the regulations and at a uniform pace. By constantly braking and accelerating, your vehicle will certainly burn more fuel. Cruise control is recommended for longer journeys. Engine braking is most economical by downshifting and releasing the clutch. Hard braking and driving at high speed are very fuel-hungry.
Move off as soon as the car engine starts. The engine warms up better while driving, while a cold engine is not economical. In winter, engine warm-up should not take longer than two minutes.
Also remember to control the turnover and keep it as low as possible. You should drive as short as possible in first gear.
Air conditioning uses a lot of fuel, so you should use it wisely. It is safest, for example, to park the car in the shade, so as not to waste precious gasoline to cool it down. This also applies to caring for the general condition of the vehicle - replace all consumables on time to avoid costly damage. Fuel filters or the right tire pressure affect the level of fuel consumption. These are seemingly trifles that change a lot over the course of a year.
New feature in Google Maps - what is it??
The tricks mentioned earlier are not the end of possibilities. Recently, the popular Google maps have also been the guardian of lower gasoline costs. Fuel consumption will also be taken into account when planning the route. Thus, the entire journey can be more environmentally and wallet-friendly.
Of course, the basic function of Google Maps, i.e. informing users about the traffic on a given route, is still important. In planning more economical journeys, information on fuel prices at selected gas stations will also help. Thanks to this, you will choose a more attractive offer. Information about charging stations for electric vehicles is also systematically added, and in the case of some it is even stated whether the station is currently occupied.
The novelty concerns the display of the forecasted fuel consumption on selected routes. Thanks to this information, you will also plan your trip in terms of fuel consumption. This will help you choose long journeys for holidays, for example, but also better determine the most economical route to work.
The data is provided by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, i.e. the United States Department of Energy. When determining the value, data such as the average fuel consumption in a given region, the angle of inclination of the route, traffic intensity and, of course, the type of road to which the query relates are taken into account. Wear looks different on the highway than on a local road.
How to enable eco-friendly routing?
Eco-friendly routing can be turned on or off at any time. Thanks to this, you can adjust it to your current preferences.
To do this, go to the Google Maps application on your phone and select any destination of your trip, in the same way as when using normal navigation. Then in the lower left corner, select Route. In the upper right corner of the screen, select More and then Route Options. You can uncheck or check the Prefer routes with the lowest fuel consumption option. Then the information about it will show or disappear.
That's all. From now on, you will definitely take better care of the environment and your wallet. However, you must remember that this does not work on all routes yet. In addition, these are only estimated fuel consumption (it all depends on the type of car). They apply to vehicles powered by petrol and diesel fuel. Interestingly, however, the application is to select the most economical route in the future depending on the type of engine (petrol, hybrid, electric, etc.).
The Google map will show the route with the lowest fuel consumption only if the travel time is close to the shortest route. If the difference in fuel consumption is small or significantly affects the length of the trip, then it will not be taken into account.
The new feature has been introduced in 40 European countries since September 7. Thanks to this, it will be possible to plan not only domestic, but also international routes. In such long journeys, the differences in fuel consumption are very important and significantly affect the cost of the entire trip. This has been working for some time in the United States and Canada, where, according to reports, it has helped significantly reduce carbon emissions. This aspect should also not be forgotten.
